Dr. Guthrie was formerly the director for Undergraduate and Non-traditional Programs. Her strong collaborative research efforts with ethnically diverse populations, funded by NINR, NIDA, and NCI, have been essential to the advancement of health disparities research and training of a new generation of nurse scientists. Dr. Guthrie also has a history of mentoring undergraduates, graduates, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty funded by NINR, Josiah Macy Foundation and most recently, Dr Guthrie has received 1.3 million dollars from NIMH to implement an R25 interdisciplinary post doctoral and junior faculty summer program.

Educational Research funded by NIMH- to mentor ethnically diverse junior faculty and post-doctoral fellows in community based approach to HIV/AIDs
Teaching
Dr. Guthrie is known for her ability to teach across all levels of nursing which is supported by her receiveing two teaching awards from two different Universities. She has an extensive history of teaching conceptual and theory development as well as pedagogy for developing and implementing interventions with underserved communities.
